The preparation

De chirurg zal u precies uitleggen wat de mogelijke complicaties van de neusoperatie zijn. Door het gebruik van speciale tampons is de kans op nabloeding erg klein. Eventuele infecties kunnen worden bestreden met behulp van antibiotica. Na een rhinoplastiek blijft de reuk onaangetast. Wel kan uw neus nog lange tijd gezwollen en gevoelig blijven bij aanraking. Het eindresultaat is pas na een jaar goed te beoordelen.

De eerste zes weken na de operatie is sporten uit den boze en het is van belang om niet krachtig de neus te snuiten of te niezen. Als brildrager mag u de eerste tijd ook geen bril met zwaar montuur opzetten. Ook moet u er op letten dat u uw hoofd niet lager brengt dan uw hart. Dit is van belang omdat anders te veel bloed naar uw neus stroomt, wat een bloeding of zwelling kan veroorzaken.

Does rhinoplasty affect my sense of smell?

No, rhinoplasty does not affect your sense of smell. However, the use of nasal tampons may cause your sense of smell to disappear for a while, but your sense of smell will return after a few days.

How long after rhinoplasty can I smoke again?

Smoking is very bad for the recovery of the nose after surgery. Clients who smoke or use tobacco products before and/or after rhinoplasty have an increased risk of complications such as skin shedding and poorer wound healing. People exposed to second-hand smoke may also be at increased risk for similar complications.

How long after nasal surgery can I return to work and sports?

A rhinoplasty takes a little longer to heal. If you have been given nasal tampons, they will be removed after 2-3 days. The patches and cap will be removed after 7-10 days. Generally, you can return to work after 10-14 days. 

For a period of 6 weeks, you should discontinue contact sports and the skin of the nose will need to be protected from excessive sunlight. Greasing well with sunblock is sufficient for this purpose.

How long will I stay at the clinic after a rhinoplasty?

After a rhinoplasty, you usually stay in our clinic for 2 to 3 hours.

How much pain do I experience after rhinoplasty?

A rhinoplasty is not very painful and usually paracetamol is sufficient.

Will I be left with scars from a rhinoplasty?

No noticeable scars will be visible after rhinoplasty.

Is treatment under the age of 18 possible?

When is the result visible after rhinoplasty?

You will see immediate results after rhinoplasty if the protective cap is removed a week after the procedure. The skin of the nose will still be slightly swollen. This swelling is not noticeable and disappears in the weeks following surgery. During this period, the nose becomes increasingly refined. Checkups take place after one week, 2 months and after 1 year.

What are the risks of rhinoplasty?

A rhinoplasty, or rhinoplasty, is a safe surgery. Serious complications are very rare. However, it is important to realize that any surgical procedure can involve risks and complications. Plastic surgery procedures basically involve healthy people and the risks and chances of complications are low. The most common complications that can occur are bleeding and infection. This is prevented as much as possible with a nasal tampon and a course of antibiotics around the surgery, respectively.
