Dr. J. (Jacolien) van der Marel has been a gynecologist since 2021 and working at Bergman Clinics, formerly the Roosevelt Clinic, since 2022. She studied Medicine at Leiden University and trained as a gynecologist at the University Medical Center Utrecht.
In 2015, she received her PhD from Utrecht University with the thesis "Oncogenic human papillomavirus genotypes and the diagnosis of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. During her doctoral research, her internships included work at the renowned National Cancer Institute which is part of the National Institute of Health in Washington D.C.
During her PhD and training as a gynecologist, Dr. Van der Marel made several scientific presentations at international conferences on human papillomavirus (HPV), cervical abnormalities and colposcopic examination.
In 2021, she participated in the drafting of the national guideline of the Dutch Society for Obstetrics and Gynecology (NVOG) in the field of cervical abnormalities. She also sees and treats many patients with vulva problems, including lichen sclerosus.
She is active as a medical specialist within the patient association for lichen sclerosus and regularly lectures on abnormalities of the vulva. Dr. Van der Marel is also a member of the "Dutch Menopause Society" and helps women with menopause symptoms.Dr. van der Marel is a skilled and patient-oriented specialist. In her work for the Roosevelt Clinic, she particularly focuses on patients with gynecological complaints, menopause complaints, abnormal smears and vulvar conditions.
