Changing or removing breast prostheses

In this procedure, implants once inserted for breast augmentation or breast reconstruction are replaced with new breast implants or permanently removed. In many cases, the capsule surrounding the implant will also be removed. However, this depends on, among other things, the capsule itself and your own breast volume.

There may be several reasons for having breast implants changed or removed:

  • Prosthetic leakage;
  • Prostheses that have been displaced. This may occur if they are placed under the muscle;
  • Changes in the volume and/or sagging of the skin of the breast;
  • A non-optimal cosmetic result due to one or more of the above factors;
  • Not wanting breast implants anymore.
