Localized fat deposits can occur in places such as the neck, abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, knees and lower legs. They are caused by an increased number of fat cells in these places in people predisposed to them. On the rest of the body, the fat layer is often normal.
Your primary care physician is your first point of contact if you have questions or complaints about your health. If the family doctor believes you need specialist care, he or she may refer you to Bergman Clinics. The referral will be sent digitally to Bergman Clinics or you can bring the referral letter yourself.
Such localized fat deposits can cause symptoms. For example, it may be difficult to find well-fitting clothing due to thick arms or saddlebags with a slim waist (Lipedema) or the legs rub against each other. In addition, one may be dissatisfied or even unhappy with the appearance of these localized fat deposits. If you have the problems just mentioned and are bothered by them, this can be a good reason to consider treatment: suctioning out excess fat then often offers a solution. This is also called "liposuction" or liposculpture or liposculpture.
Liposuction means the subcutaneous extraction of local abnormal fat deposits using thin suction tubes (cannulas) to suck out the fat. Liposuction, liposculpture or liposcuplture is not intended as an overall weight-loss treatment. If you are overweight overall and have an excessive fat percentage, it is not wise to treat you but dieting is best for you.
Liposuction, liposculpture or liposculpture means the subcutaneous removal of localized fat deposits. There are different techniques of liposuction. We distinguish below between liposuction under general anesthesia and liposuction under (tumescent) local anesthesia.
Bergman Clinics | Appearance performs liposculpture under (tumescent) local anesthesia. If the client prefers treatment under general anesthesia or the client desires an additional procedure under general anesthesia, the treatment plan can be adjusted accordingly.
The reason Bergman Clinics has chosen liposuction under tumescent local anesthesia is for a number of reasons:
1. With tumescent local anesthesia, very large amounts of fluid are slowly injected. This fluid spreads between all the fat cells. This dilutes the fat, so to speak, and allows it to be removed very evenly.
2. By "stretching" the subcutaneous network of supporting fibers and the use of vibrating needles, this network remains intact and this promotes the contraction of the tissue after treatment so that the skin does not droop. This also allows breasts, lower chins and bellies to be treated while the tissues and skin tighten up afterwards.
3. Because you will be treated under local anesthesia, we can have you assume all positions during the treatment so that we can reach the area to be treated from all sides. This benefits the final result. We also let you stand at the end of the treatment.
4. Partly because the treatment is performed under local anesthesia, the risk of serious physical complications is virtually zero (which has not occurred to us in 5000 treatments).

Does tumescent liposuction help against cellulite?
Tumescent liposuction is not intended to cure cellulite. In many cases, cellulite appears to improve after treatment, but that is not the purpose of the treatment.
Does the skin recover after tumescent liposuction?
Fortunately, the skin is very elastic. After tumuscent liposuction, the skin usually pulls tight again over the treated area. If the doctor does not expect the skin to be elastic enough, this will be discussed with you beforehand. It is due to the specific technique of slow super tumescent local anesthesia that the attachments of the skin to the muscle are not damaged. This prevents the skin from sagging. Moreover, this attachment network is activated which causes the skin to contract even more. This is what we call lipolift. Thus, the astringent effect is highly dependent on the liposuction technique used.
I have a scar across my abdomen. Can I still have tumescent liposuction of the abdomen?
A scar on your abdomen is not a limitation for performing liposuction; we have already performed many abdominal liposculptures on women and men who had scars here. Of course, there are exceptions, but usually tumuscent liposuction is fine from an abdominal wall with scars.
Is tumuscent liposuction treatment painful?
Generally, clients experience the treatment as not painful. What you feel is the injection of the fluid. This is not painful, although some may find it unpleasant. For clients with painful fatty tissue, we inject the fluid extra slowly to make it less unpleasant. Suctioning out the fat is not painful. You will feel the vibration of the suction needle and you may feel small stings, but it does not hurt. The more relaxed you are before the procedure the easier you will experience the treatment!
Is treatment under the age of 18 possible?
At Bergman Clinics | Appearance we do not perform treatments under the age of 18, with the exception of some treatments at the skin therapists. Please contact us by phone at 088 9000 500.
Can breast reduction also be done by liposuction?
Instead of going for breast reduction surgery, breast reduction using tumescent liposuction can also be chosen. This has a number of advantages and disadvantages.

Can I pay in installments?
Payment in installments is not possible at Bergman Clinics | Appearance.
Does fat come back after tumescent liposuction?
The fat cells removed after tumuscent liposuction do not return. The result is therefore permanent. If you gain weight again after the procedure, it is not because you gain more fat cells, but because the existing fat cells expand. The weight will be distributed throughout your body and much less in the treated areas, making the contour change permanent.
Up to what age can you have tumuscent liposuction performed?
Basically, there is no age limit for tumescent liposuction under local anesthesia. If you are healthy, there is no reason why you should resign yourself to feeling dissatisfied with your body. If you are on medication or under treatment, your treating specialist is usually contacted first.
Why tumuscent liposuction for lip edema?
Tumescent liposuction with vibratory suction signaling provides tremendous improvement in lip edema. Not only is the body returned to normal proportions, but the symptoms caused by lip edema - such as tired legs, sore skin and a swollen feeling - are significantly reduced in many patients. Thus, the objective of this type of liposuction is different from when the procedure is performed for purely cosmetic reasons. While in cosmetic liposuction the cosmetic result is in the foreground, in lip edema the procedure primarily helps people regain their ability to move more easily. Treatment can be supported with lymphatic drainage before and after the procedure. Wearing support stockings daily can be a thing of the past after liposuction. And that, too, is a huge improvement for many lipedema patients!
What is tumescent liposuction?
In tumescent liposuction, the subcutaneous fat is first injected with liposuction fluid and then suctioned away in a very gentle, controlled manner. An important difference from old-fashioned classical liposuction is that now a lot of fluid is first injected into the fatty tissue, after which the fat is sucked away with thin, cannulas. In this way, there is very little blood loss and the technique ensures that the fiber network and lymphatic vessels in the subcutaneous tissue are hardly damaged.
The procedure is excellent under local anesthesia. This is less stressful on the body than a general anesthesia or epidural and allows for faster recovery. In addition, local anesthesia allows you to change your position during the procedure, giving the doctor a better view and allowing for a more beautiful end result. Also, if you wish, the procedure can be performed under anesthesia: this happens anyway when liposuction is performed in combination with, for example, a tummy tuck or an arm or leg elevator.
