In the neck in the spinal canal is the spinal cord and the beginning of the arm nerves. If there is spinal stenosis in the neck, it is usually located between the fourth and seventh cervical vertebrae.
Your primary care physician is your first point of contact if you have questions or complaints about your health. If the family doctor believes you need specialist care, he or she may refer you to Bergman Clinics. The referral will be sent digitally to Bergman Clinics or you can bring the referral letter yourself.
The vertebral canal is surrounded by the vertebral arches (posterior) and the vertebral bodies (anterior). The vertebral arches are connected by connective tissue lining the vertebral canal inside.
Wear and tear is a well-known phenomenon that occurs, as we age, in the joints, but thus also in the spine. In response to osteoarthritis, the vertebral bone proliferates (it thickens). The excess bone formation and excess connective tissue can thus pinch the spinal cord. It can also narrow the openings where the nerve roots exit the spinal canal. Because these openings at the cervical spine are not as wide, symptoms soon arise.
