Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) or venereal diseases are conditions you can contract through sexual contact. STDs are usually caused by a bacteria or virus present in the mucous membrane, (menstrual) blood, semen or vaginal fluid of someone infected with an STD.

The most common STDs

There are several types of venereal diseases, some more common than others.
